Under the supervision of the Manager (Application Services Development), the Senior Programmer Analyst is the technical lead in the daily implementation of application/services development projects to prepare detailed program specifications, provide technical guidance to assist the development of junior team members and undertake programming and testing tasks that require specialist knowledge and/or experience

The incumbent will be responsible for: 

  • Undertaking the design and development of automated applications – including (but not limited to) the development of function specifications, database design, and developing and documenting application functions.
  • Ensuring the quality of software applications by developing test data, conducting system tests.
  • Assisting with the supervision of junior members of the project team.
  • Contributing to project planning, system conversion and implementation activities.


The successful applicant should have the following:

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • 5 years’ application development experience, inclusive of three (3) years in a similar position.
  • Experience in the conceptualization, design, specification, development and implementation of automated solutions to meet business needs. 
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to formulate and conceptualize solutions.
  • Experience in object oriented analysis and design techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience in Java, WebSphere and general web-based development tools.
  • Familiar with agile software development methodologies such as SCRUM.
  • Knowledgeable about agile engineering practices such as XP, TDD and Continuous Integration and Delivery.
  • Experience working with a Continuous Integration Server such as Jenkins.
  • Experience writing unit tests using a Unit Testing Framework.
