Data Protection Act coming end of June

Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, Dr Andrew Wheatley has said that the Data Protection Act will be tabled in Parliament by the end of June. 

The Act will safeguard the privacy of individuals' personal data in addition to govern the collection, regulation, processing, storing, use and disclosure of information, whether physically or electronically.

Wheatley, in a recent interview with the Jamaica Observer, noted that after a lengthy consultation process with multiple stakeholders, the legislation is “just about ready” to be presented and debated in Parliament.
